Daughter of a Soldier

I lifted the following story from Kim Peterson's web site and I'm posting it in it's entirety:

Last week I was in Atlanta, Georgia attending a conference. While I was in the airport, returning home, I heard several people behind me beginning to clap and cheer. I immediately turned around and witnessed one of the greatest act’s of patriotism I have ever seen.

Moving thru the terminal was a group of soldiers in their camouflage uniforms. As they began heading to their gate, everyone (well almost everyone) was abruptly to their feet, waving and cheering. When I saw the soldiers, probably 30-40 of them, being applauded and cheered for, it hit me -- I'm not alone. I'm not the only red blooded American who still loves this country and supports our troops and their families.

Of course I immediately stopped and began clapping for these young, unsung heroes who are putting their lives on the line everyday for us so we can go to school, work and home without fear or reprisal. Just when I thought I could not be more proud of my country or of our service men and women, a young girl, not more than 6 or 7 years old, ran up to one of the male soldiers. He kneeled down and said "Hi!" The little girl then asked him if he would give something to her daddy for her. The young soldier, he didn't look any older than maybe 22 himself, said he would try and what did she want to give her daddy? Then suddenly the little girl grabbed the neck of this soldier, gave him the biggest hug she could muster and then kissed him on the cheek.

The mother of the little girl, who said her daughter’s name was Courtney, told the young soldier that her husband was a Marine and had been in Iraq for 11 months now. As the mom was explaining how much her daughter, Courtney, missed her father, the young soldier began to tear up. When this temporarily single mom was done explaining her situation, all of the soldiers huddled together for a brief second. Then one of the other servicemen pulled out a military looking ‘walkie-talkie’. They started playing with the device and talking back and forth on it.

After about 10-15 seconds of this, the young soldier walked back over to Courtney, bent down and said this to her, "I spoke to your daddy and he told me to give this to you." He then hugged this little girl that he had just met and gave her a kiss on the cheek. He finished by saying "Your daddy told me to tell you that he loves you more than anything and he is coming home very soon."

The mom at this point was crying almost uncontrollably and as the young soldier stood to his feet he saluted Courtney and her mom. I was standing no more than six feet away as this entire event unfolded. As the soldiers began to leave, heading towards their gate, people resumed their applause. As I stood there applauding and looked around, there were very few dry eyes, including my own. That young soldier, in one last act of selflessness, turned around and blew a kiss to Courtney with a tear rolling down his cheek.

We need to remember, everyday, all of our soldiers and their families and thank God for them and their sacrifices. And at the end of the day, it's good to be an American!

Listen to the Kimmer on 640WGST weekdays from 4 PM to 7 PM.

Try not to post things that make me cry RW. I look really funny when I cry. First the hair on my arms and neck stand up, then the lump in my throat, and then a full fledged waterfall.

Super story. Now excuse me, I'll be needing a whole role of TP.
don't make me cry @@!!! i can cry at the drop of a hat.

hey rw! manic post, huh? i can't stand this site!!!

have i told you that i love you, rw?

anyway, good to be back home. i checked ml's today. that's the craziest shit i've read in a long time. what's with all the name calling?

and who threatened the site? am i in position of being "outed?" i'll kick some ass.

what happened to davidu? where is getalife's blog?

btw, it finally ocurred to me that gadem meant "georgia democrat." am i slow, or what.

double d,

I love you too you pain in the ass you!!

There was a threat posted over on the after dark site claiming to have data mined this site, the AJC site, and LGF and hacked all of our computers. We reported it just to be on the safe side, but every little tidbit of information they have hinted at has come straight from the comments. Maybe data mining is a new term for reading.

DavidU is still without access to a computer I believe. getalife took his blog down when Karl Rove didn't get indicted and I think gadem could mean any number of other things.
pardon my language, but why the fuck would someone be intersted in hacking the site?

what, or who, is lgf?

maybe i should return to ml's. i'll kick ass and take names. hahahaha.

so how's thing's with you? i haven't been to nicole lately.
is getalife ok?
They didn't say they wanted to hack the site, it was personal financial records and a threat to do bodily harm to some. It's about halfway down the comments here.

lgf is Little Green Footballs and I would have said getalife was doing alright, but I just saw a comment on the after dark site where he's chanting something about holding the Bible to his head.

Thanks for asking and I am good to go.

Speaking of soldiers returning, I traveled out of Hartsfield and the applause always broke out.

We would walk up to them. shake their hands and tell them, "welcome back from the suck."

They always laughed.
I'm still fuming over that 10,000th visitor snafu. I don't think I'll EVER get over that...*sob*
hey rw, as a real lib, that pisses me off. what a shit wad.

it's a shame we can't all be dissenting friends like the "old" days - you know, like last year.

anyways, i got your back.

getalife, glad to hear you're ok. that didn't happen when i flew back into town.

sorry for not paying too much attention, but i'm lacing up my doc's. got to run soon.

i feel like a million dollars being back at home. em's glad to see me and i haven't been this tan in a while. she even forgave me for lusting after "psuedo" rollo. hahahaha.

I think it was cast in fate when your blog starting putting my posts into oblivion a few weeks ago. The extra bit of time it took for me to complain and you to react was just enough to bump you two places off.

It's a damn shame that wasn't Captain Eric, but Hiram is the dude I want to meet.
Devil Doll shouldn't feel too bad. It took "Slow dd" to enlighten "Slow OO" on the origin of gadem.

Oh, I thought he was from the swamps. The primordial ooze. But proud to confess he is a Ga Dem.

When gadem first showed up he gave us one of those ml descriptions of himself. He was a moderate that occasionally voted either way...yadda,yadda..., but he sounds like a full blown socialist so maybe he's in between Dem and something further left.

Come to think of it, that's probably what ml is the middle of.
As big a pain as @@ can be sometimes, can she be as bad as this combination? Well maybe, but she did do the link for me without making me change my comment. It's a start.
Semper Fi,

It's a shame they didn't list the snack menu so we could see how Mama Moonbat's fast was doing.

i got thios as an e-mail - very cool!
I brought these over for anyone who may need them after reading "Daughter of a Soldier". Everyone help yourself.
So you and rushncap aren't friends anymore? I thought I saw the two of you speaking in the "language of love" earlier. I didn't quite understand his response to you though when I translated it.

The little "White Griffon" wasn't quite me. Too cute. It reminded me of my daughter though.

The translation from French back to English on what I told rushncap loses a little impact too if you use google to translate.

What happened to all your links, like to the very famous "ML after Dark"?

Or is my computer just going wacky after the 90 mph wind gusts we enjoyed yesterday?
Buy Danish,

They seem to be fine here. It could be your computer or it could just be good old piece of crap blogspot.

I would blame the storm and get 2k from FEMA as soon as possible.
